PLAY DOUGH

Assalaamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
One of the most often used product in our house is Play Dough. Its been one of our family favourites, since forever. We have used it in many many ways from 1st child up until now Alhamdulillah. We used it for our kids quiet time, used for craftwork, used as a travelling must have , its used in our homeschool lessons languages, math, science, concepts etc. The point is we use it a lot., but many times little kids end up eating them, which is not safe and the struggle to clean their mouth is real.
I had started to prepare my own 6 years ago, and was following that tedious recipe without lemon juice and not much oil, up until very recently, As a beginner then, I really struggled with the recipes until I got it right. I had few pots and pans (even non stick ones) ruined and destroyed forever 😩. Most of the homemade recipes always called for cream of tartar, which wasn't actually available easily then. It isn't easily available even now. and I used to try lemon or vinegar instead and it would turn out well
However recently,I experimented a few recipes cooked and no cook and finalized on one of my own recipes. The no cook ones didn't actually remain much long and little one eating it raw still didnt seem right, So I tried a top of the stove one. Alhamdulillah it came out well.
Cream of Tartar Free Play Dough Recipe
Ingredients:
2 cups All Purpose Flour1 1/2 cups water
2 tablespoons oil
2 tablespoons vinegar
1/2 cup salt
Food colours and Scents of Choice (I used orange peels )
Method
- Mix in all the liquid ingredients and the orange peels and allow it to simmer.
- Lower the heat and remove the peels
- Add in all the dry ingredients while mixing with a wooden until it forms into a huge ball
- Increase the flame while continually mixing the ball in a kneading fashing with the wooden spoon till you attain the desired play dough texture.
- Remove it on a lightly floured surface until it cools down slightly
- Knead it well and divide it into balls.
- Use a drop of food colouring on each ball of dough and knead it well to have the colour in a uniform manner.
- Put them in a container. once its completely cooled, it can be sealed .
Do not cover the container until its cooled down or else the dough will get all sticky and nasty.
With this recipe the pans remained really clean, there was no sticky residue left, no scraping required.
I would however recommend wearing gloves while using the food colours, the colours I used stained my hands a little more than I had expected.
Have Fun Trying This Recipe Out.
